Before you can lease on anywhere, your truck has to qualify. The requirements are simpler than most drivers expect โ€” here is what actually matters.

Age: 2000 or newer

ARI accepts sleeper semi-trucks that are model year 2000 or newer. You do not need a new truck โ€” you need one recent enough to be reliable and to pass inspection. A well-maintained older truck in that window is perfectly fine.

Type: a sleeper for OTR

For over-the-road and regional work, a sleeper cab is the standard. It lets you run the longer, better-paying lanes without paying for lodging every night.

Condition: DOT-ready

Your truck needs to pass a DOT inspection โ€” brakes, tires, lights, and the basics in working order. If it is roadworthy and you keep up with maintenance, this is rarely a hurdle.

What you do NOT need

  • Your own DOT authority โ€” when you lease on, you run under the carrier's. With ARI, no authority required.
  • A brand-new truck โ€” reliability beats model year.
  • A trailer, necessarily โ€” see do you need your own trailer.

Quick qualification check

Own a 2000-or-newer sleeper, hold a valid Class A CDL with about 2 years of experience, and have a clean record? You very likely qualify. Check the full requirements and apply โ€” approval typically takes 24-48 hours.
